Now we are in the summer term, we know many of our students will cycle and walk to school more, and hopefully this will reduce the amount of car traffic at the start and end of the school day. Continuing our focus, we have arranged some Dr Bike sessions with Sustrans.

Sustrans is a nationwide charity who work with communities, creating a healthier and happier lifestyle.  They are also the custodian of the National Cycle Network, which is 12,000 miles of signed paths and routes for walking, wheeling, cycling and exploring outdoors. https://www.sustrans.org.uk/about-us/

We have arranged for all students who cycle to school on these days and register their bike on arrival to school with the Sustrans representatives, at the school bike compounds, for a free bike MOT.  This will consist of small adjustments/repairs that may be required for your child’s bike, while your child continues classes as normal.

If your child’s bike is not looked at on Day one, they can return it for Day two.

There will also be a Cycle Safety Assembly for Year 7 and 8 students (Year 7 on Monday 19 May and Year 8 on Tuesday 20 May 2025), hosted by Sustrans representatives, providing students with a comprehensive guide on road safety, how to look after their bike, route planning, road positioning and the highway code.

Please place these dates in your calendar, as I am sure this road safety scheme will be popular amongst students.
