Delivering learning for life within an aspirational culture

STEM Club

This term, a group of amazing Sixth Form students formed a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Club.

Their aim is to promote STEM to lower Year Groups and show them how much fun Science can be, which hopefully will in turn encourage them to believe that a career in STEM could be an option for them.

They have many ideas in the pipeline, but the first one was to organise a Year 7 Science Club at lunchtimes.  This has been a roaring success as you can see from the photos of Year 7 students enjoying taking part in fun practical’s that they would not normally do in the classroom, as well as being able to talk to the Sixth Form students and learn about the science behind how each practical works.

They will be continuing with science club every Tuesday during second lunch and have an expanding list of practical’s to complete, so if you are in Year 7 and would like to come along, please sign up on the day in registration or first lunch outside S1 and then turn up ready to experiment during second lunch in S1.  If you are not in Year 7, don't worry, the Sixth Form volunteers are looking to roll out activities to other Year Groups, so watch this space for more news.
