Year 12 Option Blocks - September 2023 Intake

A Level Route

At Arthur Mellows we offer two pathways: A Levels and a Vocational route. Vocational subjects (BTEC and OCR Nationals) are Level 3 qualifications which are recognised by both employers and most universities.

Students who wish to study A Level courses will need 7 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths, English Language and a minimum of 4 Grade 6’s.

Specific entry requirements for each subject will be stated in the prospectus

• Please select three A Levels you would like to study as part of your Post 16 options.

• You can only select one subject from any Option Block.

• If you wish to study Further Mathematics, you must also choose Mathematics.

Vocational Route

Students who wish to study Vocational courses will need 5 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language.

• If you wish to study Vocational courses please select two Vocational subjects.

• If you wish to study the Business Extended Diploma (3 A Level Equivalent) please select Business at the bottom of Option A, and no other subjects.

• As each Vocation is equivalent to one and a half A Levels you need to attend extra lessons. You must therefore select both Part 1 and Part 2 of the subject combinations.

• Please note you can only select one Part 1 subject from each of the option blocks, however you may select two Part 2 subjects from the same block as long as they are both in a different column.

e.g. you can study Applied Science (Option A and C) and Health and Social Care (Option B and C), but not Applied Science (Option A and C) and Sport (Option B and C).
