AMVC’s Youth MP

As you will know before Easter half term we were lucky enough to be taking part in the ‘Peterborough Youth Elections’. To add further interest one of the candidates was from our school Ben Geldart (Year 9).

This was a super exciting opportunity to be part of as we became a polling station and shared with our students the manifestos of candidates from schools across Peterborough. It was wonderful to hear young people talk passionately about the change they want to create and the changes they wanted to create.

Ben and his campaign team worked hard to ensure people understood his message and following tutor sessions where the manifestos were shared, students were invited to vote.

After a very nervous wait we were delighted to hear that our very own Ben Geldart had been elected as Peterborough’s next Youth MP! This was brilliant news and the students were so proud of Ben’s achievement.

This is such an exciting role, and one which Ben is thrilled to be undertaking. Ben is passionate about addressing issues such as homelessness in Peterborough and University tuition fees.

Ben is already fully embracing his new role and has already begun to plan his next steps in this new role to create positive change. Ben has also received a lovely letter from our local MP Sam Carling to wish him luck in his future endeavours.

I know both staff and students at AMVC wish him all the very best in his future role. We are so proud of his amazing achievement and first steps into the world of politics.

Next stop Prime Minister.
