We will contact your current school or college for clarification of the above predicted grades and to gain background information prior to meeting with you.

Is Arthur Mellows your first choice?

An offer of a place in the Sixth Form will depend on:




  • A Level:  Students who wish to study A Level courses will need 7 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths, English Language and a minimum of 4 Grade 6’s*. 

  • Vocational:  Students who wish to study Vocational courses will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language*. 

  • Vocational qualifications will only count as one GCSE for all students. 

  • A recommendation from your current school, as suitability for successful Sixth Form study in three subjects of your choice, from the range offered by the College.

  • Having satisfied the entry requirements specified for each Sixth Form course.



* Maths / English – If a student attains a Grade 3 in ONE of these subjects consideration of a place will still be given.



Final courses are always subject to minimum numbers and may not run if not viable.

Year 12 Option Blocks - Intake september 2026

A Level Route



Students who wish to study A Level courses will need 7 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths, English Language and a minimum of 4 Grade 6’s*. 



Specific entry requirements for each subject will be stated in the prospectus




  • Please select three A Levels you would like to study as part of your Post 16 options.

  • You can only select one subject from any Option Block. If you choose a mixed route (Vocational and A Levels subjects) this rule still applies across both tables.

  • If you wish to study Further Mathematics, you must also choose Mathematics.



* Maths / English – If a student attains a Grade 3 in ONE of these subjects consideration of a place will still be given.


Vocational Route



Students who wish to study Vocational courses will need 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language*.




  • Please note you can only select one subject from each of the option blocks. If you choose a mixed route (Vocational and A Levels subjects) this rule still applies across both tables.

  • If you wish to study Vocational courses, please select the equivalent of 3 A Levels:  Part 1 Vocational Subjects = 1 A Level Equivalent

  • Parts 2 and Part 3 Vocational Subjects = ½ A Level Equivalent each. Please note that to take Part 2, you must be taking Part 1



Final courses are always subject to minimum numbers and may not run if not viable.



Business Courses Explained:




  • Business Extended Certificate – 1 A Level Equivalent – Choose Part 1 only

  • Business Foundation Diploma – 1½ A Level Equivalent – Choose Part 1 AND Part 2

  • Business Diploma – 2 A Level Equivalent – Choose Part 1 in Block D, Part 2 in Block A AND Part 3 in Block C

  • Business Extended Diploma – 3 A Level Equivalent – Choose in Block A (Do NOT choose any other subjects)



* Maths / English – If a student attains a Grade 3 in ONE of these subjects consideration of a place will still be given.
